Fall 2013 Life Nights
Fall Series: Theology of the Body
LIFE TEEN KICK-OFF – September 15th
(Fall Semester Kick-off:)
SAY SOMETHING – September 22nd
(The body makes the invisible, visible/We are made for love)
About: “The body, and it alone, is capable of making visible what is invisible: the spiritual and the divine. It was created to transfer into the visible reality of the world the mystery hidden since time immemorial in God and thus be a sign of it.” – Bl. John Paul II, TOB 76
LIFE – September 29th
(Original Man – Adam and Eve the 1st relationship, and what happened after – combine life and death night)
About: Adam was originally alone in the garden (original solitude) and realizes more fully who he is through communion with Eve. They were naked without shame and their communion reflects the communion of God (Trinity). Understanding our bodies and the dignity of the body helps us to better understand AND have a relationship with God Himself!
DEATH – October 6th
(The Fall, Original Sin, & Historical Man)
About: “After original sin, man and woman will lose the grace of original innocence. The discovery of the nuptial meaning of the body will cease to be for them a simple reality of revelation and grace. However, this meaning will remain as a commitment given to man by the ethos of the gift, inscribed in the depths of the human heart, as a distant echo of original innocence.” – Blessed John Paul II, February 20th, 1980
HOPE – October 13th
About: Redemption was offered to us 2000 years ago by Jesus Christ and He still offers that same redemption to any who are broken and wounded. The sins and hurts that have wounded the dignity of our bodies can be healed through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
LIFE TEEN RETREAT – October 18th-20th
THEME: “If you are what you should be you will set the world on fire.” – St. Catherine of Sienna
ARCHDIOCESAN SAFE ENVIRONMENT NIGHT – October 20th
About: Teens will be broken up by grade to discuss age-appropriate Safe Environment as prescribed by the Archdiocese
THE TEMPLE – October 27th
(Issue Night on Drug Awareness)
LOVE – November 3rd
(Love as Self-Gift – Living love in relationships)
About: Love is a self-donation that is free, total, faithful, and fruitful. The only proper response to the human person is love. It is through THIS kind of love that we can live fulfilled relationships.
HUNGER – November 10th
(Lust and Spiritual Hunger)
About: We have in us a spiritual hunger for community and communion. We respond to this hunger not by oppression but understanding chastity properly – in a “genuinely Christian attitude… of joy in, and affirmation of, the body, of sexuality.” – Benedict XVI
Seek – November 17th
(God desires us)
About: Dominican Sr. Anna Laura joins us to give us great hope in knowing the God desires each one of us!
Ugly Sweater Party – December 1st
About: We will kick off Advent celebrating in anticipation the coming of the Word made flesh – God becoming man!
No Imitations – December 8th
(Living Theology of the Body)
About: National speaker Chris Stefanick joins us to break open what a life lived looking through the “lens” of Theology of the Body looks like and how we can do it. Chris offers teens something to say "Yes!" to: Health, happiness, authentic relationships, and the love they were made for...everything else is an imitation! Upbeat, passionate, humorous.
